Where It All Goes: The Oakland HHW Facility

E-Waste: Also Not Curbside
Electronics — TVs, monitors, computers, printers, phones, tablets, small appliances with cords — aren't hazardous waste in the classic sense, but they're still banned from your curbside cart in California. Appliances With Freon: Special Handling
Refrigerators, freezers, window AC units, and dehumidifiers contain refrigerants (freon and related gases) that must be recovered by a certified technician before the appliance can be recycled. You can't legally cut the lines and haul it to the scrap yard yourself, and no good hauler will just chuck it in the truck.
